The Benefits Of Matcha
Antioxidant Powerhouse
Matcha is a potent source of polyphenols and is packed out with antioxidants – the natural powerhouses which act as the body defence system and help fight against ageing and chronic diseases. Of all the polyphenols found in Matcha, the most well known are the Catechins, which reduce inflammation, maintain arterial health and promote cell regeneration. The high levels of Catechins present can help boost metabolism and fat burning potential by increasing thermogenesis – the process by which the body processes and burns energy. These antioxidants can also help regulate blood sugar levels which increases Insulin Sensitivity and may have a positive effect on the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes.
Fun fact: 1 tsp of Matcha powder can have the equivalent antioxidants of 10 cups of green tea
Higher State Of Consciousness
Matcha contains high levels of L-Theanine, a rare amino acid which promotes relaxation and well-being, aiding you to feel both alert and calm at the same time, in a state of relaxed alertness. L- Theanine produces alpha waves in the brain, which are signals that induce mental relaxation, reduce stress and lowers blood pressure, all whilst promoting clarity and concentration. It is also capable of inducing dopamine and serotonin which can stimulate improvement in mood and concentration, whilst also helping with memory and learning.
No Coffee Crash
With 25mg of caffeine in one cup of matcha (1/4 of the caffeine content in an espresso) you still get a boost of energy, without the spike in adrenaline, insulin and glucose levels which commonly lead to the jittery rise and subsequent crash after your flat white. Matcha offers a sustained energy fix, as the caffeine present binds with the antioxidants, notably the Catechins, which then slowly release caffeine into the bloodstream, lasting for anywhere from 3-6 hours.
